So I’m working on a film/tv project that I can’t tell you much about; ya, the one I’ve been cryptically telling you about for like a month now. And I’m not trying to be mysterious…I literally can’t tell you about it until it drops. Plus I always think I’m good at being mysterious, and I am not. But for this project, I had some new mastering done to the tracks because I wanted them to be really good. And I liked them so much, that I decided to have Collections II and Our Dreams are Made of Rain remastered as well.
I’m very pleasantly surprised with how they turned out, and feel as if this is closer to my original vision for these melodies and atmospheres. So starting tonight at midnight, both these albums go free, for 24(ish) hours. Maybe more. Because I would like all of you who enjoy this music and bought the original albums, to be able to have the new editions for free. Each track is remixed and remastered, and while still retaining that darker recorded feel that I am fond of, they now stand out and grab you just a bit more. The download links are the same, but every track has been replaced.
This past December, I made all my music free for the whole month. I was blown away by the amount of you who still paid for it, and paid above and beyond for it. Half of the proceeds of whatever you did pay going to help a homeless charity in Santa Monica.
So to say thank you, I promised that my next project would start off free. And it’s here. Collections II is the new EP, with work that I am really proud of. It’s a bit of a departure and more experimental than I’ve released before, led off by a 38-minute track comprised of three improvisational guitar takes layered on top of each other.
Thank you all for your continued support, and I hope this music says thanks in a small way. If you would, you can say thanks to me by following me on Twitter and liking my Facebook Page. This really helps my career, and helps me keep producing music. And anyone who is following me there learned about this EP a few days early, too. Thanks everyone!
So let’s do this. Can’t wait to share some new projects; in the meantime, if you guys could share my Facebook Page, that would be splendid. For every share one of posts gets, I post a free download code there for one of my latest albums. For every new Page like I get, I post two download codes…one for you, and one for the person you told to like the Page.
Happy December 1st! I have ambient (or post-rock without the drums, new age with guitars, one note with delay pedals, etc.) Christmas music for you.
Each December, I release ‘The World in Green & Red‘, an ambient EP that has new songs on it each Christmas. So it’s out! It will be available until New Year’s Day.
Also, to say merry Christmas, both albums of ambient pads are free this month to support all churches and non-profits this holiday season.
And lastly, out of all sales for the month of December, half goes to families in need.
For all those of you who have expressed love for the music, but have mentioned that you can only afford to stream it on Bandcamp, I give you 36 hours of $1 music. Each album, $1, through midnight tomorrow. Right here:
But while you’re here, I did just release a brand new album that I’m actually excited about, maybe for the first time ever. It started as a project composing for a film, and then turned into a very personal session of songwriting. So I’m very pleased to share with you, Our Dreams are Made of Rain.
Christmas is so near to my heart, and in the spirit of love this year, half the proceeds from not only this EP, but from all my music during the month of December, is going to families in need this Christmas. Ambient pads album included, as well as the two free projects, for those of you who are super kind and actually pay for them even though they are free. You know who you are, and I love you. In fact, when you feel strangely warm embraces in the middle of the night, that’s me hugging you with my mind. But I think this is going to become a tradition, to release this EP with maybe a couple new songs added each year, and to half half the proceeds from all music I have out go to folks who need it. Here’s the link to the album on Bandcamp:
So here’s a couple of the new songs. There are three original pieces, and three traditional songs (public domain) with new arrangements. And fair warning…I just kind of wrote what was in my heart without paying too much mind to style. So apologies to those of you looking strictly for the ambient genre; it’s a little different than that. But it was a joy to record it.
That one is very textural, and I actually like the sporadicness of it and how nothing seems to quite fit until about halfway through the piece. Kind of feels like a kid on Christmas, or maybe the first Christmas.
That one is actually just the camera mic for the audio, but it is the actual recorded take of ‘First Snow.’ What happened is that right at about the 3 minute mark, the camera fell off it’s secure perch leaning over the cabinet propped downward by The Joshua Tree book. But I was doing kinda good on the take (very few clunkers ), so I just kept going, and then turned the video into a quick promo for the EP a couple weeks ago. But that’s all the video of ‘First Snow’ that there is. lol
Okay, this next one is very much not ambient. Sorry. It’s like Ireland with a faux choir and about 37 layered guitar tracks. I kind of like it though.
There is also a version of ‘I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day’ on this project, and that song is really the heart of Christmas for me. The lyrics are a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, written on Christmas Day, after his wife had passed, and he had just received a letter that his son had died in the war. It’s a very emotional piece, and when looked at the lyrics in the light they were written, with the conclusion Longfellow comes to, it’s a very emotional song for me.
